The DS Has lots of functonality as a very portable system unlike the switch which you would need to carry in a case or in your backback but the DS can fit inside most pockets even New XL and XL versions can fit into pcokets. it has lots of creativity with the two screen funconality alowing drawing or extra info such as star coins. with it streetpass and playcoins feature it incentviced exercise too and before miiverse shut down a sense of community before communitys like discord became widespread and forums died down
